Another week has gone by and the heat is unrelenting. Fortunately temperatures dip back down into the 80s for the rest of the week, however this comes with the cost of isolated rain storms. There’s still no reason to stay indoors as Brooklyn has a whole slew of nightlife events just waiting to be had. It certainly seems like a plethora of Detroit DJs have invaded our borough this weekend with talent like Monty Luke, Magda, Juan Atkins, Kyle Hall, Mike Huckaby and Luke Hess to name a few. PS 1 will also be opening their outside area for the kickoff of their Warm Up event series. Lastly, NYC favorites Sepalcure will be playing in a secret location attained only by RSVP.
Monty Luke (Black Catalogue/Planet e)
w/ Mike Simonetti (Italians Do It Better)
Friday June 28th @ Cameo Gallery (93 N6th St. BK)
MIDNIGHT • 21+ • $12-15
Reduced w/RSVP: http://gimme.io/Monty628
With a long history of living on the west coast and spinning out sets of raw and funky house and techno music, Monty Luke continues his persona in his newfound home of Detroit. Last year Monty collaborated with Catz ‘N Dogs on their “They Frontin’” release as well as with Mike Simonetti as Billions & Billions. He’s also the label manager for Carl Craig’s Planet E and the CEO of Black Catalogue of which he’s used as a platform for his own records and others. 2013 has found his Bomb on Bomb EP being remixed by H Foundation and Gerd on Full Flavor Music.
The Bunker presents… Magda
w/ Mike Servito, Carlos Souffront
Friday June 28th @ OUTPUT (74 Wythe Ave. BK)
10PM • 21+ • $20
Stylistically, Magda grooves through opposition – creating sets that are emotion-led yet clinical, having profound expertise with analog and digital technology. Her sound is otherworldly but visceral; dark with a warm sense of beauty and grace; sparse yet wondrously full-bodied with density and bass-swathed extremes. Magda’s DJing style has been encapsulated on her mixed CDs ‘She’s A Dancing Machine,’ and her mix for London club Fabric ‘Fabric 49’ (a mix CD with as much artistry and vision as an original album).
Rinsed presents… Sepalcure
w/ Grown Folk, Dan Wender, Blacky II
Friday June 28th @ TBA
MIDNIGHT • 21+ • $20
Sepalcure’s combination of love for bass and 90s house acapellas is the culmination of a cathartic two week collaboration between Travis Stewart (Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (Praveen & Benoît). Their mix of tribal dub, house and two step beats works equally well for both late nights in the club and rainy, introspective nights at home. Detroit techno chords cut through wooden beats, neon synths and dubbed out atmospherics.
Kyle Hall (Boat Party Album Release)
w/ Scott Grooves
Saturday June 29th @ The Panther Room (74 Wythe Ave. BK)
MIDNIGHT • 21+ • $15
Kyle Hall is quickly rising to the level of the greats he studied under in his hometown Detroit (his mentors include Theo Parrish, Omar-S, Carl Craig, Rick Wilhite and Mike Huckaby), and is fast becoming on par with some of the most defiant, innovative DJs and producers in electronic music.
