Searching for a nightlife event this weekend seemed like a pretty easy task once I had all of the listings right in front. Whether it was combing through Resident Advisor, hordes of Facebook events or from word of mouth, it really came down to the various goings-on this friday over the bulk of saturday. Starting with the bass exploits of Addison Groove, veering off to Fabric (UK)-resident Daniel Avery and even a late night cap at Le Bain with Joakim, there’s plenty to do within a single night.
Anthony Williams began his career under the much more bass-heavy, dubstep guise of Headhunter. This project took off in 2007 with several successful releases on the influential Tempa label. Suddenly in 2010, Mr. Williams released one of the most influential bass music tracks Footcrab under his new Addison Groove moniker. This track began to get regular play within the dance music community including techno and house music DJs such as Ricardo Villalobos. For this special one night only, Anthony will be joined by Ninja Tune’s FaltyDL who has recently released the fantastic Hardcourage LP. Max Pearl of the smart-as-hell Cluster Mag warms up the night with tracks rich in rhythmic history, soul and integrity. The whole thing goes down at Williamsburg’s Cameo Gallery exactly at midnight.
Meaning “The Bath” in french it’s only fitting for one of France’s most popular DJ/Producers to host a night at Le Bain right? Releasing countless records on Versatile and his own Tigersushi imprint, Joakim drifts anywhere from electro and jazz, to italo disco and funk, his variety keeps the dance floor shaking at any hour. With a fourth LP, “Nothing Gold” out last year and the stand out sprawling single Forever Young, this parisian will take you to the end of the world and back again. Joining him is one half of Populette (Throne of Blood)’s Max Pask. This disco house connoisseur has remixed the likes of Kim Ann Foxman to Black Strobe and always leads to great results on the dance floor.
Then, head over to Glasslands to hear quality selections from Daniel Avery. The boys at FIXED have flown in this resident of London’s famed Fabric club to play sets inspired by the weird and lawless psychedelia of acid house records from the early 90’s. Daniel is also keen with production, having released several singles on Optimo Music and Phantasy Sound as well a phenomenal mix for Fabriclive’s 66th recording. This one starts at 11:30PM for only $7 in advance.
For those situated in Downtown Brooklyn, look no further than this late night soiree hosted by the blog, Astro Nautico. Residents Obey City, Paul Jones, and Michael Jukeson will be firing up the “tsunami bass system” at the venue FREECANDY which is a former parking garage filled with street art. There will be movie-theatre-sized VHS video projections as well as tunes provided by some of New York’s finest producers, Braille (Percussion Lab) and Octo Octa (100% Silk). Send an e-mail with your full name to [email protected] for a reduced cover (+1 max).
