Last month we shed some light on Brooklyn Comes Alive, the one-day, jam heavy festival set to take place in Williamsburg on Saturday, September 29th. As the day gets closer, our excitement levels continue to rise. We can’t wait to groove all day and night to some fresh jams provided by some of the most talented improv artists on the scene. The whole day is sure to bring some major heat, especially when the clock strikes 12, and the Music Hall of Williamsburg officially turns into BCA’s first ever Jam Room, whose hosts have been officially tapped by the festival!
The Jam Room: Land Edition is a spin off of one of the most exciting parts of legendary festival Jam Cruise, which takes place every year in January. It will welcome an open environment encouraging BCA artists to jump on stage at their leisure, leading to some unexpected and memorable collaborations.
George Porter Jr., bassist of funk band The Meters, and recipient of the Grammy’s Lifetime Achievement Award will kick off the night hosting the first set in the Jam Room. He’s shared his enthusiasm about the event stating, “I am looking forward to bringing the magic of the Jam Cruise Jam Room to this year’s Brooklyn Comes Alive. It’s going to be funky and fun.”
The second set will be co hosted by Turkuaz guitarist Craig Brodhead and Marco Benevento bassist Karina Rykman. Brodhead has expressed that he is “truly honored to be joining forces at Brooklyn Comes Alive with the incomparable Karina Rykman for a very special Jam Room modeled on this experience, and we’ll do our best to steer the ship and man the stations with the finest musicians Brooklyn will have on hand that evening!” Rykman shares in his sentiment and is “beyond stoked to co-host the Jam Room at BCA with my dude Craig Brodhead, and represent NYC!” She continue stating, “this great confluence of players all coming together to create simultaneously is a spectacular thing, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”
If you’ve ever been on Jam Cruise, then you definitely know what this is all about. If you haven’t, Brodhead has taken it upon himself to fill everyone in on the magic saying, “If you’ve ever had the privilege of hanging in the Jam Room late into the night on Jam Cruise, you know there’s a lot to be learned from the experience. It gets weird in there. That doesn’t always mean good or bad, but one must always pass through the ‘Door Of Weirdness’ to experience the truly great improvisational moments.” We’re certainly ready for that door to open!
Festival goers will also get to experience the first-ever BCA comedy set. Wokes With Jokes: Stand-Up Comedy About The Jamband Scene is a comedy troupe compromised of Brett Siddell, Walker Berry, Ariella Wallen, Pamela Mahler and MC Richie Alfson. The group got their start during Phish’s 2017 New Years Run and have kept the people laughing during multi night runs with Umphrey’s Mcgee and The Disco Biscuits.
With all of these epic announcements, tickets are sure to sell fast. Luckily there are still some left and you can purchase them here!
