Celebrate the 35th Anniversary of Halloween (The Motion Picture Score) at 285 Kent

This Thursday 10/31, Alan Howarth, co-composer of the signature line Halloween Motion Picture Score, will be playing live at 285 Kent to celebrate the composition’s 35th anniversary. From scores to special sound effects, from Halloween stalkers to STAR TREK, Alan Howarth’s electronic imagination has contributed to some of the biggest genre films of the ’80s. Alternately wearing the hats of both composer and sound effectsman, Howarth has collaborated with John Carpenter on the music from nearly all of his movies starting with ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK; he’s provided sound design and effects for POLTERGEIST, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, all the STAR TREK movies, THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, Coppola’s DRACULA, TOTAL RECALL, and STARGATE, among others. As a composer, he’s scored all or part of all the HALLOWEEN films, composed music for RETRIBUTION, THE DENTIST, and others. Howard will be joined by the new incarnation of Liturgy. Expect a whole lot of eerieness from the past, the present and the future.

Cold Cave and Nitzer Ebb’s Douglas J. McCarthy played Glasslands (Video, Setlist)

In what was the first stop of their joint tour, Cold Cave and Douglas J. McCarthy of Nitzer Ebb fame brought their distinct interpretations of ‘the electronic dark side’ to a sold out Glasslands last night. While it came as no surprise to see the Cold Cave touring machine being oiled well after having been on the road all year, it was great to see that Douglas J. McCarthy is just as strong a solo performer as when with his legendary EBM crew, Nitzer Ebb. He has lost nothing of his raw late 80′s/early 90’s mojo. The crowd was loving it and the packed house carried over the sentiment seamlessly into Cold Cave’s 60min set. The results of Cold Cave eclipsing the sun: Fist pumping, mosh pits, a floor drenched in sweat and ’Manhattanites’ having a hard time dealing with it all.
