Pallbearer debuted new material at Northside Festival

Doom greats Pallbearer headlined the Show No Mercy Northside Festival Showcase at Club Europa last night and offered a first look into their upcoming album. Half of their hourlong set was made up of new cuts, one of which you can stream below. The sound is a bit rough, apologies for that.

Free House of Vans shows kicked off last night

Charles Bradley, Mac Demarco and Benjamin Booker rang in the free summer parties at House of Vans last night. As always, the Williamsburg warehouse was packed to the gills, free beer flowing all night. In what seemed to be more of a co-headlining arrangement, Demarco and Barkely both played hourlong sets to equally enthusiastic crowds. Snippets of all performances are below.

Pissed Jeans covered Agnostic Front

Summer is finally here, so are the season’s free shows. Union Pool hosts a series called Summer Thunder in their courtyard on the patio, typically during the afternoon on Saturdays. Yesterday, Cold Fronts from Philly and Sub Pop’s Pissed Jeans delivered some sunbathing jams, including a cover of Agnostic Front’s classic “Victim in Pain”.

Red Bull Music Academy: Hardcore Activity In Progress

A couple of thousand music lovers braved the torrential downpour on Friday night and trekked out to Queens’ Knockdown Center for “Hardcore Activity In Progress”. An eclectic variety of contemporary cutting edge artists, brought together under the Red Bull Music Academy umbrella. Due to three simultaneously operated stages, a few hard decisions needed to be made. We missed Sweden’s experimental jazz trio The Thing as well as Wolf Eyes‘ trip metal, and we only caught pianist Lubomyr Melnyk from afar. Napalm Death, Gnaw, Clipping, Skullflower and Bastard Noise however had our full attention as one can easily tell from the selection of time capsules below. When Tim Hecker closed out the main stage at around 1:30 am engulfed in complete ambient darkness, we decided to call it a night. Red Bull Music Academy’s month long conference continues throughout May. Check out the detailed schedule.
