The proprietors of popular Ridgewood Vietnamese restaurant Bun-Ker are gearing up to open a new restaurant in a large industrial space at 99 Scott Ave. in Bushwick-East Williamsburg. Chef/owner Jimmy Tu, 39, tells Eater that his team will take advantage of the larger space by offering an expanded menu of traditional Vietnamese food, a cocktail menu inspired by the tropical fruits of Vietnam, and a cold-pressed juice bar. The small kitchen of the current location, whose dining room seats just 24 people, is limiting, he says. The new space will be larger, seating about 70 people. “There was always a bunch of items that I wanted on this menu, but I couldn’t because of the space and the kitchen and the size of our restaurant,” Tu says. “I’m excited to be able to showcase that [in the new location].” [Read more…]

Legendary fashion photographer Arthur Elgort, known for his influential “snapshot” approach, is one of Vogue’s signature photographers and has crafted campaigns for major fashion houses and luxury brands such as Chanel and Dior. His wife Grethe Barrett Holby, founder of American Opera Projects, is a force to be reckoned with in the opera world, working as a producer, stage director, and choreographer. Famed actor Ansel Elgort has starred in films such as The Fault in Our Stars, Divergent, and Insurgent. Working on the other side of the film world, Warren Elgort is an independent filmmaker and producer. Sophie Elgort, following in her father’s footsteps, is a fashion photographer who has shot for numerous publications and who counts brands such as Bloomingdales and Mercedes-Benz as clients. The Elgorts will talk about their careers in photography, opera, and film, as well as their inspirations and upcoming projects. Moderated by Spencer Bailey, editor-in-chief of Surface.
