Seems a bit at odds that the same week as Martin Luther King day we get one of the most incompetent and divisive human beings in the country as our 45th president. But here we are. For those who don’t have the inclination or energy for politics this weekend, there are many excellent ways in which to avoid the circus.
While some of the major players have already announced their summer festival lineups (Panorama / Govball), which admittedly doesn’t seem too far away with today’s high of 15 degrees C, but let’s stick with the present. We only have one more weekend until an orange clown has the nuclear codes, so maybe we should just enjoy ourselves while we’re still here.
Happy new year! We made it to 2017! Hopefully everyone had a good break (if indeed you were lucky enough to have one), sincere best wishes to everyone for the coming year, I’ve a feeling we’re going to need all the help we can get. Thankfully, in terms of live shows, 2017 is kicking off in style.
Seems like a fairly normal week, local institutions announcing that they’re closing, crazy people making crazy threats, and maybe some good news with the opening of a new music venue. Plenty of great options this weekend and it’s going to be a cold one so what better way to get through it than with a few shows?
We’re in the home stretch of this wretched orbit, where end-of-year lists could read more like obituaries. Let’s try and be optimistic for a few minutes at least, and marvel at the stupendous options we have to entertain us this weekend.
Hopefully everyone had a nice thanksgiving, even better if you’re off work today too. There is a nice mix of shows this weekend, and since you’re probably still struggling to digest yesterday’s food, we’ll keep this to the point.
I go away for a couple of weeks and look what happens… it’s like forgetting to lock your door but still being surprised when you find out all your stuff has been stolen. Between Brexit and Trump this year, you’d be forgiven if “the will of the people” merely leads you to the bottom of many a bottle. Alas, if for a couple of hours each night, you can try and forget reality with some great music.
