Williamsburg’s new wine shop has a big-name owner: Andrew Tarlow, the man behind vital area restaurants like Diner and Marlow & Sons.
Tarlow’s new shop, Stranger Wines located at 132 Havemeyer St. near South First Street, focuses on the ultra-trendy natural and organic wines. Producers include Fond Cypres, Viñateros Bravos, and Susucaru with price points from $12 to $100. Winemakers will visit and pour their wines for tastings, as with one recently by Christian Binner from Les Vins Pirouettes. The team, which includes partner Dennis ‘DJ’ McNany, hopes that will help “demystify the wine process,” according to a release.
Records are also a big deal at Stranger Wines. A big collection is displayed behind the counter and vinyl will be played at the shop. Tarlow’s bread brand She Wolf is also on hand, with more snacks for tastings to come.
