New Photo Exhibit At Sage Showcases Restaurant’s Punk Rock Roots

via Sage

Indie music and Thai food may not seem like the most logical pairing, but a new Thai restaurant on Graham Ave. actually has its roots in the scene. Sage, which opened in May and is located at 301 Graham Ave. (at Ainsley), was inspired by the longtime friends and business partners behind Generation Records, an East Village punk, metal, and hardcore record store that occupied Thompson Street for twenty years. In tune with its musical background, Sage is hosting a photography exhibit later this month that will feature “prominent and influential indie bands on tour in the late ’80s through ’90s, all black and white photography, original and unique prints,” a rep tells FREEwilliamsburg.

The artist behind the exhibit is Bert Queiroz, a Brooklyn-by-way-of-Washington, D.C.-based musician and photographer. Querioz’s website says he “was one of the original members of the punk and hardcore scene that gave birth to such influential bands as Minor Threat, Bad Brains, and Fugazi.” The exhibit will be in Sage’s bar area and will open with a reception on October 30th from 8-10 p.m.

Pie Corps Now Open in Greenpoint!

Yum! via

Everyone has their little food obsessions. Some people travel thousands of miles to drink true Beaujolais Nouveau at its freshest and most covetable. Other people make systems and spreadsheets to qualify the properties that combine to form the perfect Philly Cheesesteak. My food obsession is pie. Flaky, buttery, light, thick, filled with custard, cheese, or fruit—anyway you can roll it with a pin, I am a fan of. Which is why I was so stoked to hear about Pie Corps‘ new store opening on Driggs this week, because, no joke, this place is a Mecca for pie enthusiasts. Not only do they have 9” and 6” varieties that reflect seasonal produce and tastes, but they have hand pies, palm pielettes (so sweet), mason jar pies (even sweeter), pie pops, and new to the company for their Greenpoint location, pie by the slice. They also sell savory pies in addition to sweet, so it’s not only possible to live exclusively off of their pies, it’ll be a problem not to. All their ingredients are traceable to local and tri-state area farms, and their changing pie list reads like Willy Wonka on a pastry jag. Do yourself a favor and drop by, so you can be a part of this awesomeness before it’s overrun by its own approbative word of mouth.

+++CANCELLED+++ FM Einheit [EINSTÜRZENDE NEUBAUTEN] plays Halloween show at The Acheron +++CANCELLED+++

You’d think VISA issues should be sorted out by the time one agrees to playing shows here. Apparently not so much in the case of German national, FM Einheit. His scheduled performance at The Acheron on 10/31 is cancelled for this very reason, VISA issues.

FM Einheit
, the only legitimate (former) creative force behind German deconstruction force Einstürzende Neubauten, will be playing a special Halloween show at The Acheron in East Williamsburg on October 31. This is one of only two US dates. Don’t miss the truest of all of 2012’s ‘metal’ shows. All rusty details below, including an advance ticket link. We strongly suggest to get a ticket ahead of time. This is sure to sell out.
