Mike Tyson for President

Election day is now officially less than a year away and between Hermain, Michele, Rick, and Mit – the GOP is setting this election year up to be a real special one. Somehow Mike Tyson seems like too much of a normal to be playing Hermain Cain.

New Psychobuildings Video

Psychobuildings have a new video out by fellow Brooklynite, director Yoonha Park, who also directed the super gorgeous video for Washed Out’s, “Amor Fati.” Not only does Psychobuildings’ frontman Peter LaBier have some legit moves… but that spandex outfit might be the greatest.

Psychobuildings are having an EP release party at Glasslands this Sunday, Nov 13th with Papertwin, Modern Rivals, Robotdrummer, and MNDR (DJ set) Tickets here.

R.I.P Heavy D

As tweeted by the wise Wendy Williams, “RIP Heavy D…..love you like cooked food!” Real talk.

Girls: My Ma

A beautiful performance of the standout track on Girls’ latest record, performed in an abandoned church in Brooklyn. It’s even more poignant given Owens’ history (and his mom’s) with the Church of God cult.

NYPD writes tickets for moving between train cars

Not that it needed to be confirmed, but the men in blue have clearly lost their minds. They are now writing tickets for moving between train cars via the rear end doors. Yes, even if the train sits in the station. This will set you back $75. ‘Witnessed’ yesterday on the L-train at 8th ave.

Allswell to Open Tuesday

Back in July news broke that Nate Smith, an ex Spotted Pig chef who ran a pub in Prospect Heights called Dean Street for about a month, was opening a new restaurant and bar in Williamsburg this fall called Allswell. The project opens to the public tomorrow night.

Located at 124 Bedford Ave. in the former home of Raymund’s, Allswell will serve a bar-centric menu that should change dramatically throughout the week with dishes like shellfish stew, fried tripe, potted pork, and corned beef and cabbage pie. It starts out as a dinner only spot, but expect lunch, brunch, and late night to come soon.

Eater has the menu here.

The Most Blogged About Shows of the Week

Jay-Z and Kanye West

Jay-Z and Kanye West

We’ve finally completed the four-week cycle of CMJ, starting with anticipation and ending up with severe liver disease.  A few key takeaways from our CMJ experience:

1. The single “I’m His Girl” by the band Friends is awesome.  Beware its ability to burrow deep into your consciousness.

2. Open bar at the Red Bull space is not to be trifled with.  We recommend you approach with extreme caution.

3. The boxers worn by one member of Main Attrakionz have a gravity-defying quality.  We’ve heard glue may be involved.

4. CMJ can be exhausting; plan your naps and snacks in advance.  Good spots include the Chick-Fil-A at the NYU dorms, the lox & cream cheese bagels at Russ & Daughters, and Whole Foods (for toilets & relaxations).

Youth of Today at The Acheron

A couple of weeks ago, not so Youth(ful) of Today played a low key show at The Acheron in East Williamsburg. Say what you will, but the 100 people that squeezed into the tiny space loved the shit out of it.
