America Doesn't Torture…

We just do this. Amnesty International films a reenactment of the “Stress Position” and “Belly Slap” techniques, two methods commonly used on detainees (along with waterboarding) who in many cases have not even been charged with a crime:

Rudy Supporters Make Our Eyes Bleed With New Video

Now the Rudy camp has their own Obama Girl-style video. Sample lyrics:
Global Warming, it won’t matter
if we get bombed and all get splattered.
After the election you can bet
We’ll be safer from all those threats
Chill’n’, and Reminincisn on days before 911.
Rumproast has the video here. Warning…may cause uncontrolled vomiting.

Okkervil River: Daytrotter Session

There’s an excellent, previously-unreleased set of Okkervil River tracks over at We’re huge fans of the band—their latest The Stage Names is fantastic—and the Daytrotter Sessions are essential for any fan of the band. Thanks for the tip, Kevin!

Francis and the Lights

We checked out these guys Saturday night at East River Bar and thoroughly enjoyed their set. Their sound is a combination of Peter Gabriel meets early Prince sprinkled with, as our friend Jeff points out, a little yachtiness. Their very fun EP is available here for download, but given the band’s David Byrne theatrics and three percussionists, Francis and the Lights is a band to be experienced live which you’ll be able to do this Thursday at Galapagos. [Thanks for the image Jeff]
Update: has a great post on the band here.
